Christy Scothorn is the first female tattoo artist in Lake Charles. She studied art at McNeese and became a tattoo artist to making a living creating art. She is the owner of the popular Lake Charles shop, Atomic Heart Tattoo. I photographed her using Tri-X (still to be developed) and shot a few polaroids.

I did a drive-by of some new street art in LC thanks to Brad Puckett
Ashley Withers and I interviewed Marguerite Meaux, a nurse that worked the maternity ward of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital during the deadly 1957 storm -hurricane Audrey. I had 60 minutes of great interview to edit. It was a challenge to break it down to 12 minutes and remain true to the story and the setting. Plus, I spent many hours looking for photos and anything about Hurricane Audrey.
Lake Charles was home to an air base at Chennault at one time. I think this old building was part of that facility.

Spend the entire day in Beauregard Parish including a trip to No Man’s Land and Merryville, La. The Mayor showed us the two markers for Leather Britches Smith, who was killed during the Grabow Riot.
A local folklorist and McNeese professor has written a book about the man and the event.
Hope I move this fast at 92

Currently I am editing my interview with Julie Kane, the Louisiana Poet Laureate. She is such a delight and a great poet. Interviewing her is already a top highlight of 2012.
I wanted to “jazz” up the poetry reading B-roll. Having seen a typographic of an Ira Glass interview by David Shiyang Liu, I decided to use some of the tools on Final Cut Pro X to give some of Kane’s poems the same touch. My plans are to use the “illustrated” poems in the next episode of “Artistically Speaking.”

Today I lost an old friend - Funny Face. She was an old cat. I have had her since 1996. She has moved all over with me - Louisiana, Mississippi, and Atlanta. I thought old age would catch up to her at some point but I didn’t expect my neighbor’s pit bull to kill her in my front yard because he was not properly tethered.
